Pulsar 200 NS
Pulsar 200 NS

As far as the Indian connection goes, the first Pulsar was launched in 2002. It was ground breaking in terms of most respects. It accelerated like no body's business, had bench-mark top speed, good brakes, electric start, tacho meter, fuel gauge, trip meter, side-stand indicator. These features held its novelty then. Yes, almost 10 years have passed.

CBZ tried hard, RX's tried hard, but the P-180 was the street king.

Come in 2003 and the mighty Hero Honda launched the Karizma. It had 223 cubes & belt Pulsar to pulp on almost all criteria. Out for blood, Bajaj launched the first iteration of the Pulsar and was popularly christened the V1. Somehow it had better acceleration & top speed figures than the Karizma as per a popular magazine back then. It was the first time that Bajaj deployed twin spark plug tech with the V1.

The Bajaj Pulsar series brought quite a lot of segment firsts & beaters. Side stand indicator, digital fuel gauge, LED back lamps, self cancelling indicators, fuel injection, projector head-lamps, rear disc brake. Quite a few to name at one go. Many iterations came & few went, some noticeable & some not so. Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180, Pulsar 200, Pulsar 220 FI, Pulsar 220 F, Pulsar 220 N, Pulsar 135 LS.

The Pulsar 200 Naked Sports takes the game forward for Bajaj & Pulsar.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing

Next Subaru WRX previewed by Advanced Tourer concept

There was nary a peep of discontent about the looks of the Subaru Advanced Tourer concept revealed at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show. But when everyone was clamoring for Scooby to transfer the Advanced Tourer's looks to a production vehicle, never once did people ask for that transfer to be foisted on the WRX. A report in Motor Trend, though, says that's what's happening: the concept "was actually an early look at the next-generation Subaru WRX Subaru WRX Subaru WRX ."

MT's sources said the front end Advanced Tourer's front end will go onto the WRX, with other aspects of the concept made more aggressive to suit the personality of Subaru's rally-ready racer. And if the concept also presages the next WRX's dimensions, then you can expect the next-generation sedan and hatchback to be larger (though in truth we don't anticipate a big gain in footprint).

Notice the name "Impreza" hasn't appeared anywhere in our discussion yet. Subaru is reportedly dropping the name in an attempt to get more 'Likes' for the WRX by making it more approachable, so the next model will relinquish its association with the Impreza line and be more performanced focused even as it is receives a better interior and is morphed into a "more-mature sporty grand tourer." Engine choices are still being debated for the car due in 2015; the rumored options include 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinders and a hybrid version of the 1.6-liter.

 Toyota Supra

Some sad news on the new car front. Automotive News (subscription required) is reporting that Toyota is making some changes to its long term plans thanks to the high cost of gas. The company sees this as a permanent change, with prices firmly pegged at $5.00 or more by 2015. Also, the Big T intends to make offer hybrid powertrains in all of its models.
First, despite the presence of a hybrid powertrain in the FT-HS concept (pictured), which many predicted would be the next Supra, a revival of Toyota’s halo sports coupe has been killed before it even was even reborn. Instead, Toyota will focus its sports car efforts on the AE86′s spiritual successor, a lightweight RWD coupe developed jointly with Subaru. The Lexus LF-A will come in on the high end, leaving a huge sports car gap in between. Guess that’s better than nothing.
Also on death row is the only retro-styled vehicle in Toyota’s lineup, the FJ Cruiser. The current generation will be put out to pasture and allowed to live out its remaining days, but there will be no next-generation SUV based on the FJ40 Land Cruiser.
In other news, Toyota’s zombie march towards world domination ensures that we’ll never be left wanting for of sedans, SUVs and crossovers.

Mitsubishi GR-HEV

Mitsubishi GR-HEV Concept: Pick-ups aren't exactly big sellers in Europe, and it's hard to see how an all-electric flatbed will light up America's heartland. Nonetheless, the Japanese company is keen to gauge reaction to such radical ideas

Exagon Furtive e-GT: The name doesn't inspire, but the Furtive was one of the better realised independent showings at Geneva. A four-seat all-electric sports GT, the Furtive bucks the trend by being attractive, practical and tasteful. We'll follow this firm with interest
Roding Roadster

: A neat two-seater courtesy of German boutique builder Roding, BMW-powered and built strictly to order, with high-quality carbon bodywork and interior. In stark contrast is Milan-based Soleil Motors's perverse Anadi. The Anadi is a rebodied last-generation Corvette, given an allegedly luxurious makeover and light restyle. The end result is unimpressive, hamstrung by cheap materials, with clashing colours and an absurdly amateurish brochure

Volkswagen XL1

Volkswagen XL1: One of the undeniable stars of the show, the XL1 is production-ready car of the future, an electric two-seater with a clean, teardrop-shaped body shell, carbon-composite construction and a host of other tech firsts. VW will only commit to building 250 - the car's sophistication is such that it'll need specialised servicing - but maybe, just maybe, it's a welcome sign of the shape of things to come
Porsche GT3Porsche GT3

Porsche GT3: The flagship 911, the latest GT3 is verging on the cartoonish, such are the bumps and lumps of its bolstered bodywork. Set next to its new Italian rivals it is almost invisible, making it still the subtlest supercar on the market
Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo 4C: The 4C has been long-awaited - a cute mid-engined two-seater drafted to be the saviour of the troubled Italian marque. Designed to compete with the likes of Porsche's Cayman S, the production-ready 4C inexplicably ditched its elegant headlights in favour of some awkward plastic units that don't help the car's looks. Still an exciting prospect, nevertheless
