Honda Crosstourer
The Crosstourer adventure bike provides the second home for Honda’s high tech 1237cc V4 engine, which debuted in the VFR1200F in 2011. For this latest application the power has been reduced from 170bhp to a better suited 127bhp, promising an increase in torque at lower revs which should lend the Crosstourer a muscular feel.
The styling is related to the current Crossrunner 800cc V4 but with a more rugged look to suit the adventure class, but like the Kawasaki Versys 1000 this bike has no pretensions to any real off-road ability, thereby sidestepping a direct conflict with BMW’s top-selling R1200GS.
The Crosstourer then is very much an adventure-styled touring bike, and details confirm this, such as the integrated luggage carrier which acts as topbox mounting plate if you fit one. The protective handguards are standard as is the adjustable screen, and as with most bigger bikes the dash displays economy and range information as well as the basics.
The engine is more familiar these days but let’s not forget how clever a design it is. The 76-degree V4 has its crankpins phased apart by 28 degrees, with the forward pair of cylinders both offset to the outside of the engine. This means the rear ones are closer together, creating more space for the rider’s legs.
